Herald Correspondent

A Harare woman has appeared in court on charges of threatening to kill businessman Brian Murphy who is a complainant in her perjury case.

Elizabeth Parirenyatwa Mucheche appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosiwas facing charges of perjury and threatening to kill.

The State submitted that the accused was claiming that she was being led by Mbuya Nehanda to claim the estate that was stolen from her by Brian James Rhodes.

The State applied for the matter to proceed in terms of the Mental Health Act.

Prosecutor Mr Rufaro Chonzi said they suspect that the accused was mentally ill.
However, the defense opposed the application.

Mr Mangosi remanded Mucheche in custody until Friday for bail application and to allow her to have a mental health examination.

Allegations are that sometime in October 2022, Mucheche who is not related to the deceased Brian James Rhodes or legally appointed as an executor of the deceased’s estate generated a fake power of attorney which she claimed had been signed by Anne Rhodes.

However, the power of attorney was signed after Anne’s death.

On the second count of threatening to kill the complainant, the court heard that sometime in July 2024, Mucheche met Murphy and threatened to kill him after he had filed a case of perjury against her at ZRP Highlands.
