A 35-year-old Harare woman has appeared in court after being arrested in possession of 10 grams of cocaine.

Manyara Kanetsa faced charges of contravening the Dangerous Drugs Act and was remanded in custody.

The State’s case is that on 20 December, two detectives from CID Drugs Harare received information indicating that Kanetsa was dealing in dangerous drugs in Harare.

Further information revealed that she was supposed to deliver some dangerous drugs to her principal at Eden Villa Flats, corner Baines and 8th Avenue, Harare, using an unregistered hired red Honda Fit.

The court heard that, acting on the information supplied, detectives laid an ambush for Kanetsa at Eden Villa Flats. At around 22:30 hours, detectives identified Kanetsa, who arrived in an unregistered red Honda Fit.

It is alleged that Kanetsa got out of the vehicle and was approached by detectives, who identified themselves and conducted a search. A transparent sachet containing suspected cocaine was seized from the bra she was wearing.

Kanetsa was subsequently arrested and taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare, where she was issued with an Exhibit Seizure Confirmation Receipt, number 0183807.

A preliminary drug field test was conducted on the seized substance in Kanetsa’s presence, and it tested positive for cocaine. The seized substance was weighed in her presence and weighed approximately 10 grams, with a street value of US$500.”
