HARDROCK have brought back Premiership football to Kwekwe!
Forget Kwekwe United who are waving goodbye to top-flight football.
Although they spent the entire season playing in the PSL, they never staged any match in the town.
Now that will change.
Hardrock’s 2-0 victory over MSU at Baghdad on Saturday ensured they won the Central Region title and the promotion.
Here is a club that has invested a lot not just in human resources, but in infrastructure too, after owner Shepherd Chahwanda constructed a 20 000-seater Chahwanda Stadium to be used for PSL games next year.
And it was only fitting that Hardrock earned promotion.
Yet they never got it on a silver platter, as MSU stood resolute until late in the game when Benedict Sithole and Donald Ngoma scored.
They will be crowned at Dulibadzimu Stadium in Beitbridge when they face Dulibadzimu in their final game of the season.
It’s a season Hardrock put so much into the team, bringing so many players with Premiership experience. These include Lennox Mucheto, Cleopas Dube, Ngoma and Munyaradzi Diro-Nyenye, among others.
Mucheto said: “We can’t celebrate enough. It was a tough run where we spent a whole lot of time trailing Sheasham.
“But we picked ourselves at the right time and persisted. Here we are now and we are pretty happy with the promotion.
“The whole season was tough for us. We are quite happy with this promotion.”
Mucheto was one of the three players brought to Kwekwe from Yadah, alongside Prosper Kafelapanjila and goalkeeper Dennis Kigonya. It looked like a step back for them, but they proved to be hungry for success.
