NOMADIC Englishman Mark Harrison was yesterday unveiled as the new coach of Botswana Premier Soccer League outfit Township Rollers just 24 hours after quitting local PSL side Caps United.
Harrison takes over from Madinda Ndlovu, who parted ways with the Batswana side in April after a fruitful spell that saw him leading the club to the league title last season.
A tweet from Township Rollers’ official Twitter handle read: “Township Rollers is delighted to announce that Mark Harrison has been appointed as our club’s new head coach.”
The candid Harrison was in charge of Makepekepe during a very difficult spell. Caps United released a statement on Monday confirming Harrison’s departure saying the coach had suffered both personal and professional damage due to the unfortunate operating environment prior to the new board being appointed.
The Briton joined the Green Machine before the start of the 2015 season and leaves them after just 13 games in charge.
The 54-year old former Southampton and Stoke City goalkeeper, who only resigned as coach of South African National First Division club Black Leopards in early January, had penned a three-year deal with Makepekepe.
As football manager, Harrison, with the assistance of former Highlanders coach Mark Mathe, oversaw all football affairs at Caps United in addition to taking charge of the senior team.
The Green Machine had taken their time in choosing a new head coach after the resignation of Taurai Mangwiro last November amid speculation the club was considering a number of options, among them Lloyd Chitembwe, Callisto Pasuwa, Jostein Mathuthu and Gishon Ntini. With Harrison’s departure, Caps United has appointed Mathe interim head coach until the end of the season. He will be assisted by Brenna Msiska.
