HARTLEY Academy striker, Nigel Ndlovu, has found a new home in Europe after inking a one and half year deal with Denmark Superliga side, Hobron IK.
The 20-year-old striker, whose contract with the Eastern Region Division One side expired in December last year, joined two other Zimbabwean players, Quincy Antipas and Tanaka Chinyahara plying their trade there.
Ndlovu was loaned at Hartley Academy from BN Academy and only played for a season before being spotted by Hobro staff.
He went for a five-day training camp and impressed Hobro gaffer, Ove Pedersen.
“I am so happy to be here in Europe. I was called for a five-day training camp in December and I made it.
“I signed a one and half year deal with an option of a longer extension if I impress,” he said.
The striker, who has played two matches so far, said European football was very different from African football.
“European Football is very different. It is not easy to adjust since it is very fast and tactical.
“It demands high levels of fitness. I have discovered that our local football is way behind and we still have a long way to go and I don’t think we will be able to catch up with European football,” he said.
Ndlovu, who said was greatly inspired by Antipas, FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza and his former coach, Taku Shariwa, relishes chances of making an instant impact in Europe.
“When I was young, I was first inspired by my best friend, Chris Thomas. I would also spend most of my time watching players like Thierry Henry and Fernando Torres.
“My dad also played a pivotal role in molding my talent.
“My high school coach, Norman Mapeza also inspired me.
“He is one of the people who refined me and helped me to get this far.
“I also owe my former mentor at Hartley Academy, Taku Shariwa a big thank you as he has also helped me in my career.
“I hope that one of these days I will reach to the levels of Cristiano Ronald, Neymar and our local star, Quincy Antipas.
“Although I am still new to European football my target is to score 34 to 40 goals in a season.
“I know it is very possible and as soon as I settle down I will work hard to achieve my target.
“My dream is to be one of the best players in the world. I also dream of playing for my nation, Real Madrid and Barcelona,” said the youthful striker.
The youngster who attended St John’s Preparatory School and College believes that his former club, Hartley Academy has an upper hand this season in the Eastern Region Division One League.
He, however, pointed out that they have to put their house in order if they are to reach to the Promised Land.
“Hartley Academy is a good side. They have a future and an upper hand this season.
“They have to put in place one or two things then we can talk of premiership,” he added.
