TAURAI Tugwete’s unbeaten 16 runs was the mainstay in Hartman House’s 10-wicket victory over hosts Westridge Primary School in the Super 6ers final on Saturday. The annual festival was won by the Baby Dragons who finished the tournament unbeaten. The home side won the toss and chose to bat, posting 36 runs in their allotted six overs and Hartman House had a flawless chase to win the annual gala.
Westridge last won the event in 2011 and Hartman House defended the championship which they won in 2012. “Tugwete batted really well, he is a talented batsman with a bright future ahead of him.
“He was efficient as a bowler and was not afraid to get behind the line and attack with the bat, which is the essence of this tournament, where a team wins by virtue of boundaries scored and not extras,” said the tournament director Cliff Kaseke.
This was the sixth edition of the tournament which featured six schools — Westridge, Twin Rivers, Hartman House, Rydings, Alex Park and Eiffel Flats.
It is also the best organised primary school short-version cricket tournaments in this country.
“The tournament was excellent and the sponsors were generous enough to cater for everything the boys needed and it was well attended.
“It is a great platform for the boys to work into the Twenty20 format because they will understand the values of big hitting from a young age,” said Kaseke.
