WE’VE seen women graduate from 100 percent weaves, to Peruvian weaves and to now lace front wigs. Some have resorted to twist braid wigs, while some are loyal to their dreadlocks or short hair. Short hair is becoming a trend, celebrities and regular women are embracing their natural look and truth be told they look dazzling.
Short hair is tricky, your facial features have to look a certain way, or you have to be great at doing your make up because you can end up looking like a boy/man. Older women get away with the natural short hair well because of age, society doesn’t expect much from them when it comes to trends. The short blonde hair looks amazing on most, so does ruby red but you gotta be bold.
Short hair doesn’t mean you are broke, but if you are broke no one would suspect so as celebrities such as Saana Lathan, Zola Nombona, Nhlanhla Nciza and Dawn Thandeka King are killing this trend at the moment; and these girls ain’t cheap y’all. Apart from short hair being the incoming trend, women chop off their hair for various reasons.
Why are women chopping off their hair:
Cutting herself off from the societies’ standard of beauty.
Society has the notion of beauty all mixed up. Long hair seems to be the definition of beauty across the globe. We have been brainwashed into thinking this image is the sole definition of beauty. If we were to close our eyes to society’s message that beauty is only present in long, luxurious hair, we would see the most honest visual of sexiness is displayed in the short haircut.
Short hair exposes the most seductive part of a woman’s body: her neck. And once we get a glimpse of her neck. Short hair exposes and highlights the physique of a woman — in a way long hair simply can’t.
Cutting out a toxic relationship.
The best thing a woman can do when caught up in the tethered ties of a break-up is to embark on a change of heart through the change of her HAIR. Hair represents the intimacy of her last relationship, and keeping it in the same post-break-up not only keeps her mentally stagnant in the relationship but far more vulnerable to a relationship relapse. (so they say)
Nothing will kick-start the beat of a broken heart like a new hairstyle. The best part is now you can get the hairstyle you always wanted — not the same blonde highlights you endured year after year because it was what your ex preferred.

By fearlessly cutting her hair into the edgy style she has always dreamed of, she’s ridding herself of the rigid expectations bestowed upon her by society, her partner, her friends and her family. Sometimes we abuse the hair on our heads. What was once luscious and unbreakable is now frail and wispy. Our hair (and our souls) are left worn and damaged. Not even the most expensive and luxurious conditioner treatment in the world can breathe life into hair so DEAD. Sometimes the only thing to do is get rid of it and start the over.

At some point I did cut my hair because I was tired of sleepless nights each time I go the hairdresser, it would be so tight you’d feel your head vibrating but it’s the cost of beauty.
Cutting off “beauty” to tap into style.
The beauty industry would like us to believe long hair is concurrent with “beauty— but FASHION says otherwise. Nothing exudes STYLE like a fashion-forward, short haircut. The truly “beautiful” girls are the ones who have authentic personal style. They have creative vision that is expressed through their own definition of beauty. The girls who abandon convention, opting for originality instead.
If you plan to go for the short hair, do your research and find out what suits you. You don’t have to go bald or look like a boy. There are so many ways in which short hair can be rocked. You can do a fade, an undercut, you can dye your short hair, or even twist it. Whatever happened to S curl and popcorn hairdos? Oh well, guess they faded with time.
