A DANCE challenge created by 20-year-old Bulawayo choreographer Hassan Munashe Muzorori has become one of the city’s hottest TikTok trends, with local dancers and content creators jumping onto the viral wave.
Known on TikTok as hastyhassan_zw, Hassan says one of his proudest moments came when fellow creatives across Bulawayo started recording themselves performing moves from his challenge.
“What makes that video so special is that it showed local dancers and artistes all dancing to my own dance challenge. Seeing people take something I created and make it part of a trend around the city made me proud because it showed that my creativity can inspire movement and unity,” he said.
The video, pinned on his TikTok page, has attracted more than 81 800 views and helped grow his influence online.
For Hassan, TikTok is more than just entertainment. It has become a platform to showcase talent, inspire young people and create opportunities through dance and creativity.
The young dancer has built a following of more than 21 000 followers through energetic dance videos, choreography and collaborations with local artistes and creators.
Hassan said his content creation journey started in 2022 while he was still part of Loxion Dance Crew.
“I started creating content when I was still with Loxion Dance Crew, and seeing the directors putting out content really inspired me. It made me realise that social media could be more than just entertainment, it could also be a platform where I could express myself creatively, inspire other young people and create opportunities for myself through dance.”
He said dance naturally became his niche because it has always been his strongest form of self-expression.
“The type of content I create is mostly my own dance challenges, collaborations with local artistes and creators, and sometimes dancing to other trends. I chose that because dancing is where my strength is.”
Another one of his pinned videos has amassed more than 131 800 views.
“That video really connected with people because I placed the Zimbabwean flag emoji at the top and I think people related to that instantly. At the same time, I brought my energy, my smile and creativity into the performance.”
Hassan said his passion for dance started when he was five years old after being inspired by his mother and old dance tapes.
“My mother used to dance in her prime, and seeing that inspired me a lot. Watching dance videos while growing up also made me want to learn and improve.”
Despite his growing popularity, Hassan admitted the journey has not always been smooth.
“There are times when I get chased away from public places while trying to shoot content using just my phone, and cyberbullying is also something creators face. Sometimes people criticise what you do, but I’ve learnt to stay focused and keep creating.”
TikTok has already opened doors for Hassan. In 2026, he won Outstanding Male Dancer and Outstanding Choreographer at the Iconic Youth Recognition Awards.
“Tiktok has really changed my life because now I’m becoming someone younger people look up to. I’ve also been hired for events, choreography jobs and brand adverts.”
Looking ahead, Hassan hopes to inspire young people to believe in themselves while building a bigger brand.
“I want people who watch my content to feel inspired to work hard and believe in themselves. Beyond TikTok, I want to build something productive that creates opportunities for even more people.”
