CASES of unlawful entry and theft have increased in Hatfield in the past month with residents losing cash and property.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, urged people not to leave their homes unattended, whenever they travel, and increase security in their neighbourhood.
“Police are investigating a number of unlawful entry and theft cases in various suburbs,” said Insp Chakanza.
“Of these cases, a number of victims are people leaving their houses unattended.
“We also urge people not to keep large sums of money at home since they become targets for robbers.
“In one of the cases reported, a 57-year-old Hatfield woman lost US$1 885.
“Circumstances were that the unknown accused person forced open the complainant’s dining room door and stole a handbag with cash and went unnoticed.
“Another Hatfield woman, aged 31, lost clothes and a gas tank valued at US$150.
“Unknown people were reported to have forced open the complainant’s dining door, gained entry into the house and stole various clothes and a 3 kg gas tank,” said Insp Chakanza.
One of the victims told H-Metro that a number of streets were dark and power cuts have been one of their challenges.
“We are aware that there is load shedding, but if ZESA engages police, within the area where load shedding will have been effected, it would help much,” said the resident.
“We are appealing for police visibility and street lights to help curb the robberies.”
