JOHANNESBURG. – Have the Kaizer Chiefs fans had enough of Khama Billiat?
If votes are anything to go by, then Billiat has fallen out of favour with the Amakhosi supporters.
Once a talisman for Chiefs, the 33-year-old forward is a surprise omission from the Soweto giants’ starting line-up for the upcoming Carling Black Label Cup.
Kgaogelo Sekgota, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Keagan Dolly have so far all been preferred to start ahead of the Zimbabwean international forward.
Billiat’s on-field performances on the field have not helped his situation either.
In 10 appearances for the Glamour Boys this season, Gaucho has provided two assists and failed to register a single goal.
Despite the supporters’ snub, Amakhosi head coach Arthur Zwane has maintained his confidence in Billiat.
Zwane has played Billiat in every match where he’s been available. The attacker missed five of Chiefs games due to a knee injury this season but was thrown back into the mix as Chiefs fell 2-1 to Chippa United.
Billiat started against TS Galaxy and was on the receiving end of some booing from the Chiefs supporters after failing to convert goal-scoring opportunities, despite providing an assist.
“The FIFA break should give him time to recharge his batteries fully,” Zwane said.
Billiat may get a chance to return to the Amakhosi faithful’s good graces when his side takes on Orlando Pirates on Saturday at the FNB Stadium. – KickOff
