HAZ names national team

THE Hockey Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) has named the national Under-21 men’s team that will represent the country at the Junior African Championships to be held in Windhoek, Namibia, in March.

The tournament runs from March 18-28 and will also double up as qualifiers for the Junior World Cup in India at the end of the year.

The 22-member team will immediately start preparations while the association tries to raise $50,000 to cater for the squad during the championship.

HAZ vice-president Humphrey Chigwedere said: “We have named the final men’s team after holding selection trials over the weekend. We are currently looking into the preparations issue and are going to ensure that we raise the money the team needs in Namibia.”

The winners and runners up of the tournament will automatically qualify for the World Cup.

HAZ has also launched its 2016 season calendar, which will see the first indoor tournament being held on March 12, just a week before the Junior African Championships.
