HWANGE Colliery Company in conjunction with financial services heavyweight, Old Mutual, will hold a sports day that will see the coal mining giant’s employees competing in 10 different sporting disciplines on Friday.
The sporting event will be spread across the company’s vast sporting facilities and is aimed at getting employees to bond and promote social cohesion for better productivity.
In a statement, Hwange Colliery Company corporate affairs manager Rugare Dhobhie said the 10 disciplines, sponsored by Old Mutual, are badminton, basketball, bowling, darts, golf, squash, tennis, netball, men’s and ladies soccer.
“The official prize giving ceremony will be held at the Edmund Davies Hall later in the evening,” said Dhobhie.
The event is set to be graced by the two organisations’ senior management.
The sports day comes hard on the heels of the successful hosting of the rebranded Zimbabwe National Youth Games and is also in sync with the Government’s Community Sport and Recreation Club System, which was officially launched by Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko at Nyamandlovu Primary School in Umguza district in July.
The Community Sport and Recreation Club System is an attempt by the Government to integrate previously marginalised talent into mainstream sport and recreation activities.
