Pan Jap Motors director Brighton Ushendibaba says they have always supported the Harare Christian Soccer League for many years in a bid to have a positive impact on people’s lives.
Currently, the HCSL is playing the Pan Jap tournament with the focus on spreading messages against drug abuse.
The tournament kicked off around the city this Sunday afternoon in a mini-league format, with three groups composed of four teams each.
Ushendibaba told H-Metro that his Christian background pushed him to sponsor this tournament.
“I am a Christian and I felt they also need my support,” he said.
“It’s a booming league that breeds budding players.
“We have been supporting them for quite a number of years,” he said.
“In the tournament, I’m looking forward to a great improvement of soccer and competition amongst the youths.
“Ideally, the Pan Jap tournament is advocating against drug abuse. Youths should stay away from drugs as it has become a danger to the existence of many in the society we are living in.
The drugs which are being taken are very dangerous so I feel we should also explore this football avenue in advocating against drug abuse through our churches,” he said.
“We are also trying to orient people to be goal conscious. “Everyone should know where they are coming from and where they will be going.
“Everyone should have life goals and should be ready to work on them,” he added.
HCSL chairman, Derrick Mawire, also reiterated the same sentiments.
“We have seen that the church is the safe haven where many seek solace from whatever troubling them.
“Our youths have been caught up in a wave of drug abuse. So we decided to advocate against drug abuse and all other vices our youths are subjected to through this football initiative.
“We are grateful to our sponsors who find time and purpose in channeling resources for the noble cause in society and also helping us as a league to grow,” he said.
