A 40-YEAR-OLD man was denied bail in a theft case, involving over US$2 500, when he appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda yesterday.
Simbarashe Gurumombe will be back in court today for bail hearing.
Allegations are that between May and June, Gurumombe misrepresented himself as an electrician to three complainants.
The three gave him US$1 900, US$320 and US$510 to fix electricity at their homes.
It is alleged that the accused disappeared and blocked the complainants from calling him.
He admitted receiving money from the three in court yesterday.
Gurumombe also appeared before Harare magistrate Noticia Shenje in another fraud case.
He allegedly misrepresented himself to Nkululeko Dewa, claiming he could facilitate for the complainant to secure a transformer from ZESA.
Gurumombe then asked Dewa to give him US$1 000 to buy missing transformer accessories.
He showed the complainant some pictures, assuring him that he had already spoken to ZESA staff.
He, however, disappeared after being given the money.
Nothing was recovered from the money he swindled the complainants in both cases.
Advocate Munyoro represented the accused, while Anesu Chirenje and Vincent Chidembo led the State’s cases.
