‘He wants to blow us up with dynamite’

A HARARE woman has clashed with her nephew following a dispute over a piece of land.

Elizabeth Gukwe even went to the extent of applying for a protection order against her nephew Kelvin Gukwe, citing physical abuse and death threats.

Presiding magistrate, Rutendo Machingura, dismissed the application.

During the court hearing, Elizabeth said:

“He is my late brother’s son who has developed a habit of coming to my place of residence insulting as well as threatening to kill me.

“On September 16, he insulted me saying I must vacate the house.

“The other day, we woke up and our vegetable garden was smelling of pesticide and I suspect it was my nephew who sprayed it.

“I now fear for my life because he promised to come where I am residing to blow us up with dynamite.

“Your worship, I want the court to stop my nephew from coming to my house, abusing me and claiming the stand since he now has his own stand,” said Elizabeth.

In response, Kelvin disputed the allegations.

“After my father passed away in 2013, my aunt sold all the residential stands that my father left us.

“We are fighting over a piece of land.

“I do not remember owning a stand but where I am living right now I am just a caretaker, it’s someone’s.

“I have never insulted my aunt but she is the one who is refusing to resolve the land issue,” said Kelvin.
