HE WAS A BRILLIANT KID, DAD MOURNS GRADE 4 BOY WHO HUNG HIMSELF

THE father of a Grade 4 pupil, who hung himself in Victoria Falls after a row with his grandmother over a lunch box, says his family has lost a “brilliant boy.”

Nyasha Rukobo’s body was found hanging from a Jatropha tree.

Nyasha was unhappy that his grandmother allowed his younger brother to take his lunch box because he feared that he would lose it.

And, as fate would have it, the younger brother lost the lunch box.

Nyasha severely assaulted him.

When their grandmother intervened to stop the assault, Nyasha left the house and his body was later found hanging from a tree.

His father, Adore Rukobo, confirmed the tragedy and said his son’s body was taken to Mberengwa for burial at Rukovo Village.

“We lost a brilliant boy who was always the top student in his class.

“The misunderstanding with his grandmother escalated and, after being threatened with punishment and denial of food, he became angry and left home.”

The burial ceremony was steeped in local customs, reflecting the community’s beliefs about suicide.

Mourners were required to conduct the service outside the homestead, with all doors were locked to ward off any spirits associated with the tragedy.

Additionally, mourners were not allowed to bath, and Nyasha’s body was kept outside the homestead.
