Headmaster nabbed for fraud

THE headmaster of Makwashe Primary school in Zvishavane was arrested on fraud and theft charges.

Tapiwa Majange (54) reportedly misrepresented facts to the school development committee and stole cash amounting to $11 000 from the school bank account.

Majange ran out of luck when auditors from the Ministry of Education discovered his shenanigans.

He was hauled before Zvishavane magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing two counts of theft and fraud charges.

In the first count of fraud, the complainant is the school development committee chairperson Chesi Ngazimbi.

The court heard that during the period extending from 1 January 2014 to September 2015, Majange converted school funds into personal use.

To cover up for his games, he lied to the School Development Committee that he paid auditors an amount of $500 from school funds.

It was then discovered that the headmaster was lying and no auditing had been done during the period in question.

As if that was not enough, they also discovered that Majange had withdrawn $4 095 from the schoola��s FBC account and had omitted to account for it.

For the third offence, during the same period, Majange was to deposit $6 823 in the school account, but he didna��t.

When Majange was questioned on what had happened to the missing money, he failed to give reasonable answers leading to his arrest.

The magistrate remanded him out of custody on $500 bail to 14 June for trial. .
