Health and Fitness With Sungano Shingirirai Venge: Tummy issues

Before I move deeper into this issue, I would like to pass my gratitude to those who have been e-mailing me.  Thanks for the support.  May I at the same time apologise for delaying to respond to some of your mails.

Most of the time it will be because of poor network.  So let me take this time to respond to some of your questions.
I thought I had spoken enough about tummies, but this seems to be an endless issue.
But since this article is for you guys, I will never tire to say this over and over again.
All the mails I received (you won’t believe it) were all about people asking how to reduce their tummies.

This does not amaze me though, since 90 percent of people who join the gym are people who are not happy with their tummies.
Big tummies used to be a measure of wealth so many years ago, but now it spells a lot of misery to many.
And for sure it must be a cause for concern now because according to research, pear and apple shaped bodies (i.e. those with a wider mid-section) have got a higher risk of heart problems and strokes than those with a smaller and tiny waist.

I have mentioned before that you cannot separate the idea of losing your tummy and weight loss.
What I am saying is that for your tummy to be able to shrink, you would have lost some weight and fat.
And weight and fat loss can only be achieved through regular training activities combined with a proper eating habit, because regular training increases your metabolism.
Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns the calories from the food we eat.

So if your calorie intake is higher than your metabolic rate you will gain weight.
And most people gain weight around the mid-section more than other body parts, thereby having a big tummy.
There can be some medical conditions which can also cause the slowing                   down of your metabolism such as a thyroid problem.  There are two types of thyroid — hyper active and under active thyroid.

If you have got an under active thyroid you are always bound to gain weight no matter how little you eat.  Because an under active thyroid causes a slow down in your metabolic rate.
If your thyroid is hyper active, it means a higher metabolic rate which means the person affected is bound to be under weight.
So it is also very important to consult your medical doctor if you have tried all means to lose weight without success.

Diabetic persons are always encouraged to eat starchy foods for the production of insulin to normalise the sugar level in their blood.  But the continuous consumption of starch will result in weight gain.
I have also spoken about the importance of knowing the causes and the type of tummy one is carrying in order to be able to get rid of it.  For example if you have got a bloated tummy you need to know and get rid of the food that causes you to bloat.

The most common foods which cause bloating are very starchy foods like your bread, and refined foods including your alcohol.  Identify the foods which cause you to bloat and you will be able to get rid of this tummy.

Post baby-tummies are very common with women.
This is a sluggish rounded tummy which remains after giving birth.
You just need to be back into your daily exercises within six weeks after giving birth.

Overweight tummy is caused by high consumption of calories from food, alcohol and fizzy drinks.  Cut down your food and alcohol intake to deal with this tummy.
When your body is stressed up, this contributes to weight gain and increasing the size of your tummy.
Organise your eating habits that do not stress your body, like avoiding going for hours without a meal, skipping and eating very big meals per given time.

More small meals are better for your body to lose weight.
Age also does contribute to how your tummy may look like, depending on your activeness.

I will give you the exercises to do at different age groups so that you can be the best you can be at any stage of your life.
Talk to you next week.

God Bless!
