A health counsellor in the Ministry of Health and Child Care appeared in court yesterday on allegations of terminating pregnancy of a 14-year-old girl in the backyard of a Glen Norah house in Harare.

Justice Chinyadza (45) of Glen View 8, Harare, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with unlawful termination of pregnancy.

Chinyadza was not asked to plead to the charges and was remanded in custody to today for bail application.

The State led by Mr Thomas Chanakira said early this month, the teenager called Chinyadza asking for help to terminate her pregnancy. Chinyadza allegedly took the girl to the Glen Norah house where he allegedly inserted three pills into the girl’s body. She started bleeding after a few hours. On Friday last week, the girl collapsed and was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital where it was discovered that she had terminated pregnancy. She implicated Chinyadza.
