Health inspectors in court for fraud

issuing fake receipts on Monday appeared in court charged with fraud.
Owen Benjamin Chikonyora (44) and Nicholas Mironga who are employed by the Health Professions Authority were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Shane Kubonera who remanded them out of custody to July 25 this year on US$200 bail each.

They were ordered to report once every Friday at CID Frauds and to surrender their passports to the clerk of court.
The pair’s duties among others include registration of health institutions and renewal of practising certificates.

Prosecutor Mrs Svodai Kadivirire alle-ges that sometime in January 2009, the two hatched a plan to defraud the Health Professions Authority.
Pursuant to the plan, it is alleged, the pair manufactured a fake receipt book that they used to issue receipts to clients who were renewing their practicing certificates.

It is alleged that on 89 different occasions, the two acting in connivance issued practicing certificate receipts from their fake receipt book to clients and converted the money to their own use.
The offence came to light after the Health Professions Authority conducted an audit inspection for their financial records.

A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the pair and a fake receipt book was recovered at Mironga’s house.
