Health Ministry completes most of its set targets

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has scored significant milestones in the health delivery system with several notable projects at an advanced stage of completion.

Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere, in a Post Cabinet Briefing this Tuesday reported that various progress have been recorded on projects under the Health Ministry.

“The repair of cancer machines at Mpilo Hospital is 90 percent complete, with the CT scan and the Chiller being work in progress. The construction of a National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory at Mpilo Hospital is on course, with the construction of the super structure being at 85 percent of completion,” he said.

In a bid to ensure the country reduced maternal mortality the Minister reported that the procurement of materials for the renovation of 10 waiting mothers’ shelters and theatres at Mt. Darwin, St. Albert’s, Siakobvu, Chidamwoyo, Sanyati, Father O’Hea, Manama, St. Annes Brunapeg, Inyathi and Nkayi, is in progress.

The installation of X-ray Machines at Chikurubi Maximum Prison Hospital and Inkomo Barracks Hospital is now completed, while other hospitals are at various stages of completion.

The installation of Oxygen plant rooms at Lupane Hospital and Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital is underway, with the projects expected to be completed in December 2024.

Dr Muswere said the replacement of Gel batteries with Lithium batteries at 15 health facilities which include Bota and Gutu Rural Hospitals is at 99 percent completion while the construction of the water tank at Chitungwiza Central Hospital is on course, with the overall progress being at 55 percent
