A new model aimed at combating drug and substance abuse is set to be launched in Zimbabwe, thanks to the efforts of a Zimbabwean health practitioner based in the United States, Dr Emmanuel Nzuzu.

The model under the “How to Stay Sober” programme, is designed to empower individuals and communities through capacity building, education, mentoring and workshops.

The Sober at Last Academy will conduct the workshops nationwide, with the first one titled “Preventing Drug/Alcohol Relapse” scheduled for May at the Highlands Sports Club in Harare.

This workshop is tailored for therapists, counsellors, psychologists and social workers.

Dr Nzuzu developed HTSS based on over 17 years of work and research with alcohol and drug addicts in various recovery settings.

Zimbabwe has witnessed an increase in drug abuse in recent years, which has raised national awareness of the issue.

“The first workshop, ‘Preventing Drug/Alcohol Relapse,’ is scheduled for Friday, May 24th at the Highlands Sports Club in Harare,” said Dr Nzuzu. “This workshop is specifically designed for therapists, counselors, psychologists, and social workers.”
