Health Service Commission legal manager Wilson Matsika, who was facing extortion charges, has been acquitted.
Matsika was accused of demanding US$1,000 from a former employee to approve his reinstatement at the commission after a labour dispute.
He denied the allegations when the trial opened, describing the charges as a fabrication.
Regional magistrate Donald Ndirowei found him not guilty of the offence, stating that the evidence led by the State did not assist in establishing the essential elements of extortion.
“It is clear that the State has failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused person. Accordingly, the accused person is hereby found not guilty and acquitted.”
