A 50-YEAR-OLD man’s footsteps on the roof of a supermarket jolted security guards at a supermarket in Bulawayo into action.
It was in the early hours of 11 July and the guards immediately checked the premises only to see one Langton Mugoni inside Njabulo Supermarket. After noticing that he had been spotted Mugoni made a dash for his exit — the roof of the shop.
Unfortunately for Mugoni, whose surname literally means the capable one, he was unable to make good his escape as the guards caught him on his way out of the shop. Mugoni had already harvested two large packets of Master’s Nappies, a Nokia cellphone and a Samsung Galaxy cellphone.
After his arrest and subsequent appearance in court Mugoni did not waste the prosecution’s time as he pleaded guilty to unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances before Western Commonage magistrate Gladmore Mushove.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with three months suspended on condition of good behaviour. Kenneth Shava prosecuted.
