IN a late-night ambush, two Bulawayo women allegedly turned femme fatales and robbed a taxi driver at gunpoint, before tossing him into the boot of his own car!
Monalisa Mhlanga (21) from Emganwini and Fikile Ncube (26) of Pumula South appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze facing armed robbery charges. The Bonnie-and-Clyde duo, who reportedly didn’t act alone, were remanded in custody to 21 May for trial.
According to prosecutor Milton Moyo, the twisted trap was sprung on 2 March around 8 PM. The alleged robbers used Mhlanga’s mobile phone to lure unsuspecting cabbie Orchard Nyawo (37), who drives under the InDrive app, to a pick-up point along Khami Road near Lion of Judah Church.
But instead of passengers, Nyawo found terror. Armed suspects reportedly smashed his window, grabbed the keys, and forced their way into the car.
“They tied him up with rope, shoved him into the boot, and made off with his wallet and vehicle—a silver Honda Fit,” Moyo said.
The getaway didn’t go as planned. When the thugs pulled into a garage in Pumula South, an alarm system went off, spooking the gang. They bolted, abandoning both the car and their terrified captive still locked in the boot.
Nyawo was later rescued by Good Samaritans, and a police dragnet led to the arrests of Mhlanga and Ncube. Their alleged partners-in-crime are still on the loose.
Stay strapped, Bulawayo—this city’s night crawlers now ride in heels and hoodies!
