MUSIC promoter, Nigel Chinovhiringa, of Braai Out ZW feels Poptain might have deliberately created a social media firestorm, in which he attacked the businessman, to try and push his new song.
Poptain used his Facebook page to lash out at the promoter.
The musician’s management team say they are looking at ways of resolving the impasse in an amicable way.
Chinovhiringa accepts that he owes the singer part of his payment for a show held at Lake Chivero three weeks ago, which flopped, and ended up costing his business US$18 000.
However, Poptain was in a bad mood yesterday.
“They always wanna look good when they get called out but why did you refuse to pay me the balance? You know an artist doesn’t perform pasina balance, do you want me to tell the world you have been ill-treating me since last year?
“Why did you not pay me for last year (when) you used me to market your show? You are proud to say taane three weeks taita show, hausi kunyara?
“Do you think dai wakandiudza zvakanaka kuti you made a loss ndaimbosvika panapa?
“Waisinditi ndikuita dzungu here pandai addressa kunonoka kwaiita chero nedeposit yacho? You asked for too much but I didn’t complain takaita zvese, even posting your show every day!“I feel so disrespected.”
Chinovhiringa told H-Metro:
“Firstly, let me say he has every right to vent in any way he likes because I acknowledge my faults in the whole matter but I thought the matter was resolved through his management, with whom I made the booking.
“I booked Poptain for a show at Lake Chivero, through his manager Vokal, and all comms were done through his management.
“And, a deposit of half his payment was made with an agreement for the balance payment to be paid before went on stage.
“Unfortunately, the turnout was low and I couldn’t make the balance payment before he went on stage but he still went on stage and performed, which I am grateful for.
“After the show, I held discussions with his manager and explained the situation. He is a seasoned guy in the industry and he understood that the balance could be paid later after I had recovered.”
He added:
“A week later, I started getting calls directly from Poptain and I advised him it’s best we talk through the manager since he is the one I made the booking with and he wasn’t happy with that and hung up the phone.
“Then, today, he called again and started insulting me and threatening me with legal action and I advised him again it’s best we talk through his lawyer or manager and, again, he wasn’t happy with that and went ahead to post on his social media.
“The promoter said Poptain probably insulted him to try and push his new song.
“I feel he did all that just to create a scene to push his new song because a few minutes later he posted a new song.
“It happens, I don’t begrudge him, people have different ways to vent but I feel it has only been three weeks since the event and it’s not like he didn’t get any money.”
