The Henry Chapman Cup is an annual event that is held in honour the former General Manager of Rhodesia Railways who re-designed today’s Chapman Golf Club.
The tournament is played over five rounds and the medal matches are played on the first weekend of every month.
Several high-profile golfers are still in the tournament and they include Emanuel Hungwe Vas Robert, Erasmus Muronda and Anil Gulab.
Chapman Golf Club manager, Stuart Uta, believes the tournament has reached the challenging phase.
“The cup is played over 18 holes of medal qualifying rounds.
“Thereafter, three rounds of medal with the best net score for all four rounds being declared the winner.
“Henry Chapman Golf Club began in May 1928, after prolonged and lengthy discussions between the Salisbury Council and the Railway Administration, lasting over a period of some four years.”
Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) will on Monday host the ZLGU fundraising golf day at Wingate.
The tournament is expected to raise funds for charity for a children’s home of the ZLGU choice.
ZLGU public relations officer, Hellen van Rensburg, said they were looking forward to a good turnout and urged golfers to attend to the event.
“Break up your holiday weekend by playing in the ZLGU charity tournament to be held at Wingate Golf Club on Monday 8 August in the morning.
“The entry fees are US$100 per team and the competition is a four-ball better-ball stableford, with a team prize.
“Women, Men’s and mixed entries are welcome. The President, Thembi Moyo, has nominated God Help Us Children’s Home in Goromonzi as the worthy recipient of the funds raised,” Rensburg said.
