VP Nkomo urges police to deal with violence

in his Office Flora Buka during at the passout parade of 348 police officers in Harare yesterday, VP Nkomo said local police had a reputable background of maintaining peace and stability.

Among the graduates were 263 males and 85 females who underwent basic police training.
“The organisation has a rich experience of successfully policing events and processes of this nature and magnitude,” he said referring to the referendum and elections.

“In light of this, all would-be perpetrators of violence should be warned that the police will be in full force and shall arrest such offenders regardless of their political affiliation or station in life.”
VP Nkomo said political leaders should be exemplary and display high levels of maturity by urging their supporters to desist from violence.

VP Nkomo  said the fight against violence was all encompassing and other stakeholders should play their part.

“In fact, it is the responsibility of all of us inclusive of media houses and civic organisations to promote peace and tolerance amongst our people,” said VP Nkomo.

“We should take cognisant of the fact that elections are events which come and go, but our brotherhood is enduring and it flourishes when watered by love and unity of purpose.”
VP Nkomo said Zimbabwe fought colonial oppression to restore democracy that had culminated in regular holding of elections.

He said the country hinged its developmental programmes on enduring values of democracy.
VP Nkomo urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads as Zimbabwe celebrates the festive season. He said some criminals took advantage of merry-making that comes along with the festive season to commit crime.

“Motorists should exercise caution on the roads by adhering to traffic laws and regulations,” he said.
VP Nkomo said police should deal with drivers who violate traffic rules considering that most accidents were attributable to human error and vehicle defects.

Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, Attorney General Johannes Tomana and police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri were among those who attended the ZRP 2012 11th graduation ceremony.
