Journalists from the Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Ltd wrote their own piece of history dominating the annual Zimbabwe Union of Journalists provincial awards for Mashonaland West province. The journalists from Zimbabwe’s most diversified media group scoped five awards during the awards night held in Chinhoyi on Friday.
Eight awards were up for grabs during the ceremony.
The Herald correspondents Fortunate Gora and Conrad Mupesa won the best Courts and Crimes and Agriculture Reporter of the Year awards, respectively.
Another correspondent, Heather Charema, scooped the Best Child Rights Reporter of the Year Award.
Gora also stole the limelight winning the first runner-up in two categories – Child Rights and Health and Environment Awards.
In her address, Zimplats representative Ms Chiedza Mupfumira urged journalists to play a pivotal role in rebuilding Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwe is in the process of rebuilding and journalists also re-inventing themselves. Be positive and share good stories about the country,” she said.
“As for us (Zimplats), we will continue to do what we know best, that is mining and we are happy that Bimha Mine is back on board and Mupani Mine, a $264 million project will be up and running.”
