AMBITIOUS side Herentals are moving with times as they now have a developmental team that will be playing in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One League next season while the main teams features in the Premiership. The feeder team’s promotion from Harare Province Division Two B comes barely three weeks after the promotion of the senior side into the top-flight for the 2018 season.
Herentals will be following trends set by teams like Highlanders, Harare City, FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars who all have developmental sides who play in Division One. Highlanders have Bosso 90 in the Southern Region while Harare City and Ngezi Platinum have Harare City Cubs and Ngezi Platinum Under-19 in the Northern Region.
FC Platinum have FC Platinum U-19 in the Central Region. The teams will be used as developmental sides which will prepare players for the senior side. The Herentals feeder side won promotion at the weekend when they beat Koala 1-0 to open a 10-point lead. The team is under the guidance of Paul Benza who works closely with Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, Tsungai Mudzamiri and Simbarashe Dedza. Benza said he is happy they are now in Division One.
“We had several players who helped us like Pilgrim Domingo, Rinos Majarira, Desmond Chikosi who had 14 clean sheets, Charles Ncube among several others,” said Benza. Meanwhile, Luke ‘Jukilile’ Petros’ ZIFA Central Region Division One side Whawha slipped two points adrift of log leaders Nichrut and Tongogara after they were held to a goalless draw by Telone.
