HERENTALS Queens are three games away from being crowned the Zimbabwe Women’s Football League champions for the first time.

The female Students are on the verge of writing their own piece of history if they win the league title which has been dominated by Black Rhinos Queens.

The army side are the defending champions after they won the last league title in 2019 before Covid-19 forced football into lockdown.

But Herentals have surprised even themselves this season and have dominated the log table for the greater part of the season.

The female Students have lost one match so far this season. They were stunned by Harare City a week ago. To their credit, they have managed to avoid defeats against bigger opposition such as Black Rhinos Queens and Chapungu Queens. On Saturday, they were awarded a 3-0 scoreline against Mutare City Rovers who did not turn up at Motor Action Sports Club.

Chapungu Queens were the biggest winners at the weekend when they hammered Yadah 12–0 at Manyame Air Base Sports Club. Chapungu player Fellistars Muchenyeka scored four goals, while forward Ethel Chinyerere grabbed a hat-trick. Chinyerere is the leading goal scorer in the league. She has set her target of 35 goals this season and is three goals shy from achieving that feat. Dorothy Nyoni scored two goals while Nomazulu added another goal to complete the rout.

Chipembere Queens were also awarded their match against Scorpion Queens on a 3-0 scoreline.
