TWO robbers, who were overpowered by their victim, appeared in court yesterday charged with attempted robbery.
Liberty Shoriwa and George Machanyangwa appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje.
The heroic complainant, Noah Mukurunge, from Chinhoyi, boarded the duo’s vehicle with his mother and sister.
They were travelling to Chinhoyi, on the evening of May 6, from Harare.
They boarded the car at Park Street in the Harare CBD. There were three occupants in the car, Shoriwa, Machanyangwa and one Marabha, who is still at large.
They drove along Leopold Takawira Street towards Avondale and turned into?Lomagundi Road towards Chinhoyi.?
When they got to the corner of Lomagundi Road and West Road, the front seat passenger produced a knife and ordered Mukurunge to calm down.
Mukurunge, however, managed to wrestle with them and disarmed the man.
When they realised that they had been overpowered, the driver stopped the vehicle and the other two accused persons jumped out and ran away in different directions.
The driver continued wrestling with Mukurunge but also jumped out after being overpowered.
Mukurunge gave chase while shouting for help and was assisted by members of the Neighbourhood Watch in Avondale West to apprehend the driver and the other robber.
They handed the duo over to officers at Avondale Police Station.
