Chinhoyi Council employees question Nigeria trip

CHINHOYI Municipality employees have questioned its decision to attend a housing conference in Nigeria when they were not being paid on time and service delivery is at an all-time low.

This issue has become a huge talking point in the Mashonaland West capital.

“Council is yet to settle our salary arrears citing economic challenges, but senior management can afford to spend money flying five people to Nigeria,” said one Council worker.

“This is a case of misplaced priorities.

“How can they organise such a trip when they know that they owe us a lot of money?

“Just go around town and you will be greeted by a stench of raw sewage which has become a health time bomb.”

However, Council’s public relations manager, Tichaona Mlauzi, defended the trip saying it was above board.

“When you go on a trip outside the country, it is cleared, and this particular one was given the go-ahead.

“The trip was not only for Chinhoyi, but our Council went there representing the nation,” said Mlauzi.

“So, Chinhoyi is no exception, otherwise we should be proud that we are playing an ambassadorial role of representing the country.”
