PREPARATIONS for the Manicaland Volleyball Heroes Tournament are at an advanced stage with five teams confirming their participation. The venue will be Nyamhuka Primary School in Nyanga on August 11. According to the Manicaland Volleyball Association chairman, Farai Mboto, the tournament is meant to celebrate heroes and taking volleyball to the people.

“The tournament is meant to honour and celebrate our heroes through volleyball. It is also meant to spread and take volleyball to the people that is why this time we are going to Nyanga,” said Mboto.

So far five teams have confirmed their participation and more are expected to confirm today (Friday).
The participants include ZRP Mutare, Tanganda (Chipinge), Hounds (Marondera) and the hosts, Nyanga Mavericks.

“So far we have five teams, but we are expecting more teams to confirm today (Friday).The venue is ready, trophies and individual medals are already in place and we intend to make it a family day,” added Mboto.

Meanwhile, Mutare Boys’ High School put up a superb performance and scooped silver medal at the just-ended NASH Games held in Marondera.
Mutare Boys’ High were Group B where they topped the group in the group stages. In the quarter finals they thrashed Mpopoma High 2-0 before booting out Matopo High School in the semi-final on the same scoreline to book a place in the finals.

In the finals, they clashed with Harare giants, Cornway and were dismissed 3-0 to settle for silver. In the girls’ category, Manicaland was represented by Nyashanu High School.
Nyashanu was dismissed 3-0 by Mpopoma in the semi-finals.

Nyashanu lost the third and fourth play-offs to Mufakose 2 High School to settle for fourth position.
Talent Brendon Ncube of Mutare Boys’ High was voted the best attacker.
“It was a good outing for our province as compared to the past years. We now await for the youth games,” said Mboto.
