Mrs Charlotte Msipa in Gweru on Saturday, Dr Msipa said wives of freedom fighters gave unwavering support to their husbands during the liberation struggle and therefore should be honoured for their efforts.
Mrs Msipa died on April 27 and was conferred with liberation heroine status.
She was buried at the Midlands Provincial Heroes Acre.
Dr Msipa said wives of liberation war heroes fought the liberation struggle in their own way after being forced to fend for families alone while their husbands were in prison.
“Acting President, Cde Joice Mujuru, I would like you to go and make a request to the Politburo that they should also recognise wives of freedom fighters who contributed indirectly towards the attainment of independence.
“I remember when I was in prison during the colonial regime, my wife stood by me and was forced to fend for the family on her own.
“She did not desert me regardless of the uncertainty on my release.
“Women mostly got worse of this grim situation,” Dr Msipa added.
Dr Msipa expressed gratitude to Government and Zanu-PF for conferring his wife with liberation heroine status.
