The holidays will descend on us soon and in spite of the economic slump, any hardworking person knows better and ends the year with a well-deserved holiday. Before you dismiss the idea as one for the high earned, here is a news flash: The Victoria Falls, Kariba, Nyanga and other well-known marvels are not the only destinations in the country.
In fact, the country is awash with affordable little-known resorts, villas and some of them in the most unlikely places. This week we unearth some of them
Green Mountain, Kwekwe
For those of a more adventurous nature, a holiday centred on mountainous area could be the perfect break from the daily hustles of the city.
For an opportunity to take in some breathtaking scenery or indulge in activities like sightseeing, Green Mountain located along the Gokwe/ Nkayi Road just outside Kwekwe is the place to be.
The Green Mountain presents an exciting getaway with a brilliant mountain view in an unbelievably luxurious lodge that overlooks the somewhat evergreen surroundings and a village-like set-up of nearby homesteads.
Kulizwe, Binga
Binga is can easily pass as one of the most interesting tourism towns thanks to its untapped rich culture and environment. The town is also home to a little-known heaven, Kulizwe, that is on the southern banks of the Lake Kariba.
While local and foreign tourists flock to Kariba not many are aware that you can explore Lake Kariba from the Kulizwe Resort.
Activities for guests include fishing for large tiger fish and sunset cruises. The Mutusadona National Park starts just east of Binga and from Kulizwe one can see all the large game that are expected from an African safari destination.
Kulizwe is a family destination par excellence complete with massive lawns, beautiful swimming pool and magical sunset
Its lodge is at the main harbour in Binga and it is where people depart from for a houseboat (yacht) holiday.
Besides Troutbeck and the Leopard Rock, the Eastern Highlands in Zimbabwe has other wonders like the Nyanyadzi Hot Springs.
At the centre of the mountains, tour filled lakes, sparkling rivers, spectacular waterfalls, glorious forests, rolling moorlands and dramatic gorges.
The mysterious hot spring has its water reaching boiling point.
The villagers believe is boiled by mermaids! Now that’s a spooky story to share on a holiday trip.
