Hifa preps start

six-day annual festival that showcases the best of local, regional and international arts and culture in a comprehensive programme of theatre, dance, music, circus, street performance, spoken word and visual arts.

This year’s edition, to run from April 30 to May 5, will be the fourteenth.
Hifa board of trustees chairman Mr George Mutendadzamera told a media conference that the festival could also be used to promote tourism in the country.

“Many people do not realise the economic impact of Hifa. A successful festival will attract a lot of people from different countries and as such so many economic activities are generated from that,” he said.

“It is becoming bigger as we grow. We hope to make it even better.”
The festival will be running under the theme “What Next . . . ”

Explaining the theme, the show’s artistic director Gavin Peter said it was borne out of the realisation that the show had grown from strength to strength and its future, though unknown, was unlimited.
“We feel we should not be scared of the future, progress is coming,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hifa head of media and community liaison Tafadzwa Simba said they were going to sponsor two musicians to record videos with an international recording company.

“We have managed to source some funding and this year we are going to sponsor two artistes to record videos with an international recording company,” he said.

Simba said the idea was borne out of the realisation that Zimbabwean artistes were not being given the recognition they deserved on the international scene.

He said Hifa would choose one artiste while the people would vote for the other artiste on Facebook. – New Ziana.
