THREE YEARS WITHOUT AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK!: Two young men who assaulted a man with a beer bottle and fists after getting intoxicated at a Moneni bar have been ordered by the Mbabane
High Court in Eswatini to stay away from alcohol for the next three years as part of their suspended sentences.
Siboniso Masuku (19) and Owami Simelane (21) appealed their seven-year prison sentences, asking the court to reduce the E7 000 fine each had been given as an alternative to imprisonment, arguing that their grandmother could not afford it.
Judge Nkosinathi Maseko reduced the fine to E4 000 each, but attached a strict condition to their suspended sentences: No alcohol for three years.
The ruling means that although the two men have been granted a reduction in their bail amounts, they must also observe the court-imposed restrictions, including the three-year prohibition on alcohol consumption. –Times of Eswatini
