Zimbabweans will be watching closely tomorrow afternoon as Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, presents the 2026 National Budget to set the tone for the country’s next phase of economic transformation.
Speaking at the recent pre-budget seminar in Bulawayo, Prof Ncube indicated that the budget will be anchored on the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and aligned to the long-term aspirations of Vision 2030.
He said: “The fiscal plan will accelerate ongoing reforms while responding to current economic realities”.
Priority areas are expected to include macro-economic stability, financial sector deepening and measures to support inclusive growth.
The minister said the Government intended to strengthen structural transformation, expand infrastructure and housing development and consolidate gains in agriculture, food security and climate resilience.
The budget will place significant emphasis on science, technology, digitalisation and human capital development. Job creation, youth entrepreneurship and the creative industries are expected to feature prominently, alongside regional development through devolution.
Minister Ncube said: “Social protection, gender-responsive policies, international relations, trade and improved governance remain central pillars, stressing that all priorities reflect Government’s commitment to inclusive, resilient and sustainable growth despite evolving global and domestic challenges.”
