A high-level delegation from Pakistan is set to visit Zimbabwe soon for a meeting of the Joint Economic Permanent Commission between the two countries.
This was said by outgoing Pakistani Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Riaz Bukhari when he paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga at his Munhumutapa offices last week.
The Pakistani delegation will be led by the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Ambassador Bukhari said they had also discussed various issues with VP Chiwenga.
“We talked about SMEs, we talked about the agriculture sector, we talked about trade, economic relations, parliamentary cooperation as well as people to people relations,” he said.
“Soon the Government of Zimbabwe will convene the Joint Bilateral Economic Commission, which will be held in Harare. Our Honourable Foreign Affairs Minister, who is head of the Joint Economic Commission, will lead a high-level delegation to Harare when the dates of the meeting are finalised.”
He also commended Zimbabweans for the peaceful manner they conducted the July 30 harmonised elections.
“I would also like to congratulate the people and leadership of Zimbabwe for successfully holding the general elections in July. Now there is a new Government and it’s the time to work closely for improving our relationships and working jointly to improve the living standards of the people of Pakistan and Zimbabwe and having a peaceful environment conducive for our environment,” Ambassador Bukhari said.
He said he enjoyed his stay in Zimbabwe and thanked Zimbabweans for the hospitality they had extended him.
“I would like to thank the leadership and the people of Zimbabwe for the lively hospitality and cooperation to make my mission successful and during my stay in Zimbabwe I tried my best to continue our good bilateral relationship, to strengthen our bonds of relationships in all fields particularly in defence, economics, agriculture, food security and people to people relations,” he said.
Zimbabwe and Pakistan enjoy cordial relations and the Asian country has provided assistance to Zimbabwe in various fields since the country attained independence in 1980.
Meanwhile, outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Huang Ping also bade farewell to VP Chiwenga and said the two countries had achieved a lot through their friendship.
“I just had a very nice talk with the Vice President and acknowledged the time we joined hands and had our relations grow,” Ambassador Huang said.
