The glamorous pageant in its eighth year and organised by Mavis Koslek, was held at the Cathedral Hall under the theme: ‘Nurturing a positive attitude towards women empowerment’. It was attended by a number of the city’s socialites and proved to be one of the most organised and prestigious events in the city.

Matende said she planned to assist the underprivileged through charity work.

“I want to assist the less privileged especially orphans through charity work. I’ll also embark on an environmental awareness campaign through the cleanups,” said the ecstatic Matende.

Koslek said the aim of the event was to promote the city of Gweru and its culture.

“The Miss Gweru pageant is meant to promote Gweru, its culture and beauty as well as to empower young women. The pageant doesn’t focus on looks only, but also considers intelligence and confidence of the participants,” Koslek said.
