Highlanders 10km fun run preps on course

THE countdown to the inagural Highlanders Athletics Club 10km Fun Run is on with Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairperson, Watson Madanyika calling on long distance runners to register in time for the event set for Sunday at the Highlanders Sports Club.

The event, which will run under the tagline “Your Health Is Your Wealth” will also include the five kilometer walk/run.

Registration is on, with the fee pegged at US$5 and can be done at Highlanders Clubhouse and club offices
Entries will close on Sunday morning just before the event takes place.

“We are approaching the home stretch in as far as preparations for the competition are concerned. As Bab, we are offering technical support and at this stage I can safely tell you that this competition is going to be exciting. We are calling on athletes to register and make this event big,” said Madanyika.

There will be free medical check-ups on the day. The run is aimed at encouraging wellness and constant health-preserving practices by individuals such as physical exercise and regular medical check-ups hence on the day, organisers have partnered with the Organisation for Public Health Interventions and Development (Ophid) to offer free health checks.

Exercise and regular health checks have been proven to be effective in stemming diseases and also early detection of various health conditions.

Various activities are lined up for the event, which is open to all interested members of the public and will also incorporate a zumba and an aerobics session after the race.—@innocentskizoe
