Isaac Munkombwe, hailing from Binga, is carving a niche for himself in the music industry with three albums under his belt, positioning Matabeleland North as a growing powerhouse of musical talent.

Born in 1983 in Gaza Kasompole area under Chief Siachilaba in Binga, Munkombwe attended Gaza Primary School and later Siansundu High School for his secondary education.

Inspired by the legendary Sungura musician Leonard Dembo, Munkombwe, who also works as a presenter at Twasumpuka radio station and a general hand at Binga District Hospital, has been immersed in music since 1995.

Alongside friends Mackenzie, Billiat, Alec, Lovemore, himself and Kelias, they formed the now-defunct Mbaliki Band, deriving its name from their initials.

In 2022, Munkombwe formed the Delampuli Express band and since then, he has been making waves with his distinct Sungura style. He attributes his lyrical prowess and musical production skills to his dedication and collaboration with Danmag Studios in Bulawayo.

His debut six-track album, “Namuundwe Ngunamuundwe” features tracks such as “Nabbatula” and “Nobazyali” setting the stage for his musical journey.

Following the success of his initial release, Munkombwe swiftly followed up with “Maanu Musinza” in 2023, featuring popular tracks like “Lucia” and “Nkuntula”. His latest offering, “Kuwa Kulambukwa”, released in April this year, includes hits such as “Vangeli” and “Moya Wamuntu” garnering significant airplay across various radio stations nationwide.

Reflecting on his growing popularity, Munkombwe remarked, Songs like “Zyakunyanyina” and “Vangeli” have resonated deeply with listeners, motivating me to continue creating music that connects with people.”

“Zyakunyanyina made me realise my passion for music as it received widespread appreciation and love. Tracks like “Lucia” and “Vangeli” are also gaining immense popularity, with airplay across numerous radio stations.

“The reception of Vangeli has been phenomenal. I believe I’m destined for greater success because I have a clear vision and strive for originality. w
