BULAWAYO soccer giants Highlanders and Chicken Inn resume their rivalry when they clash in a friendly match set for Barbourfields Stadium tomorrow. The Premier Soccer League called off league matches to pave way for the Chan second round first leg qualifier between Zimbabwe and Zambia at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
Chicken Inn secretary Tawengwa Hara and Bosso boss Peter Dube confirmed the match with Hara saying they will use the encounter to assess their new signings ahead of the resumption of the games.
Bosso are also likely to throw in their new signings, Tinashe Chipunza and Master Masitara who were signed from Botswana sides Miscellaneous and Nico United respectively. “We want the boys to keep in shape but more importantly the coaches will use the friendly match to assess our new guys’ adaptability to their style in a game situation,” said Hara.
The Gamecocks registered four players during the second transfer window with only Clemence Matawu getting game time when he came in as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Highlanders. The other players now under Mandla Mpofu are Charles Mutero, Dillan Chivandire and Evans Chikwaikwai.
“As Chicken Inn we also want to continue winning against Highlanders even when playing a friendly match,” said Hara.
On the other hand, Bosso, with a single win in six competitive matches, will want to prove a point that they are still the big brother in the City of Kings and Queens.
While he has not had a game situation, the lanky Chipunza has shown some deft touches during training with some deadly runs as well as brilliant dribbling skills while Masitara has proved to be an assassin in front of goal.
