Highlanders FC has extended its heartfelt condolences following the death of seven supporters who perished in a tragic road traffic accident along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road on Friday evening.
The accident, which occurred at Mawabeni in Umzingwane, claimed the lives of the fans according to Highlanders FC.
In a statement, the Bulawayo giants said they were devastated by the loss of their loyal supporters, describing their deaths as a huge blow to the club and the football fraternity.
“Highlanders FC extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the seven supporters who tragically lost their lives on Friday evening,” the club said.
“To the bereaved, we offer our sincere prayers, strength, and unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time. May you find comfort in the love that surrounds you and in the memories of those we have lost. As a club, we stand with you in grief and solidarity.”
The club paid tribute to the deceased supporters’ unwavering loyalty, saying their passion for the black-and-white jersey would never be forgotten.
“Their passion and dedication to the Black and White will forever be etched in our history. May their souls rest in eternal peace.”
The tragedy has sent shockwaves across the football community, coming just days after police confirmed that seven bystanders were killed when a truck ploughed into people gathered at an accident scene along the busy highway.
