BARBOURFIELDS is buzzing as Highlanders head into the break leading Yadah Stars 1-0 thanks to a cool finish from Reason Sibanda in the 23rd minute.
The forward showed composure beyond doubt when he latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Melikhaya Ncube and calmly slotted past the keeper to send the Soweto End into song.
Bosso looked sharper right from the first whistle, creating wave after wave of attacks. In the 9th minute, Mvelo Khoza’s dangerous corner almost handed Ncube a dream opener, only for his volley to miss the target. Minutes later, Sibanda’s header from another Khoza delivery was blocked as the Miracle Boys’ defence struggled to cope.
The breakthrough came as no surprise, with Bosso playing with hunger and purpose in front of their home fans. Even when Yadah threatened through Ariel Makopa’s header that rattled the crossbar, the Highlanders backline stayed alert to keep their noses in front.
Captain Andrew Mbeba soldiered on despite limping for most of the half, while Nigerian striker Benjamin Odeogun nearly doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime, his thunderbolt skimming the side-net.
The Bosso faithful roared their approval, sensing that De Jongh’s men are finally showing the grit and swagger that once made them feared.
With 45 minutes to go, the black and white army smell blood.
