HIGHLANDERS have reportedly turned down a request by chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede to take early retirement after the veteran administrator indicated that he was tired and wanted to rest.
Gumede’s contract is due to expire in six months’ time and he has already indicated that he will not be renewing it.
Bosso sources said Gumede had approached his employers and told them to look for a young and energetic administrator.
“Gumede even offered to help the club on a part time basis while the new man learns the ropes, but the club, especially the old guard in the board, refused to grant his request,” said the source.
Gumede, chairman Peter Dube and board chairman Mgcini Nkolomi could not be reached for comment.
The veteran administrator recently told members of the media that he will cry in nostalgia the day he leaves Bosso.
Former defender Netsai “Super” Moyo has been tipped to replace Gumede as chief executive officer. Moyo, who was sacked as team manager together with Bongani Mafu’s Bosso technical team in September, is a senior executive at Grassroots, partners of Southern Region League side Bantu Rovers.
Other names that have been touted as possible replacements include Zifa education officer Brian Moyo, former Highlanders’ committee member and secretary Nhlanhla Bahlangene Dube and Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele.
