Highlanders to hold art exhibition

AS part of their 90th anniversary celebrations, Highlanders will on 15 December hold an exhibition at the National Gallery inAï¿½ Bulawayo.

The clubaï¿½ï¿½s acting chairman Modern Ngwenya said they would take time to exhibit photographs, paintings, merchandise, jerseys, medals and other memorabilia of interest at Highlanders.

aï¿½?The exhibition will be all about showing all and sundry issues to do with our identity as Bosso, where we are coming from. We are looking forward to seeing the exhibition informing people about our vision by displaying our heritage in the form of medals, jerseys, pictures and merchandise,aï¿½? said Ngwenya.

He said they had partnered the National Gallery to mark the historic milestone and to involve the wider Highlanders family in holding the exhibition.

Ngwenya added that they were aware that peopleaï¿½ï¿½s love for Highlanders had made them keep some items of historic value that could go on display at the exhibition.

aï¿½?We want the exhibition to tell the story of Highlanders right from inception through to the current year. Bosso has had an illustrious history and momentous occasions that need to be celebrated and highlighted to all football loving people,aï¿½? he said.

Ngwenya also reckoned: aï¿½?The countryaï¿½ï¿½s sporting history cannot be complete without mention of the club hence we believe the exhibition should cover a wide spectrum of our history hence our invitation to as many people as possible.aï¿½?

The fact that the Bulawayo giants do notAï¿½ have a gallery where people that are interested in the club, be it fans or those that are curious about the history and culture of one of the biggest football institutions in the country, is a sad reflection of how poorly football history, not only at Bosso, but around Zimbabwe is catalogued.
