SOUTHERN Region League strikers failed to beat a target of 22 goals set by sponsor a Nokel Security a with the leading goal scorer only managing to net 15 goals.
As a way of motivating local division one strikers Nokel Security had upped the stakes by dangling a $300 prize for the player that netted 22 goals or more over and above the $150 that is earned by the top goal scorer at the end of the season.
Tashinga Mungadze of Black Boots finished the league campaign with 15 goals. Goals scored in cup games do not count.
For his efforts he will walk away with the top goal scorer award that carries a $150 tag and another $100 for surpassing the number of goals scored last season.
Last year Bekithemba Nyoni of Technosphere and Bantu Roveras Lenience Mpofu shared the top goal scorer award.
They scored 10 goals apiece.
a?Although the 2016 top goal scorer failed to beat the target of 22 goals set at the beginning of the season we will give him an extra $100 over and above the $150. We must appreciate that he (Tashinga Mungadze) managed to surpass the 10 goals scored last season and that is a sign that the level of competition is improving,a? said Nokel Security director Mhlophe. .
