HIGHLANDERS FC have started the hunt for a new treasurer after the incumbent Jerry Sibanda was recalled by his employers, the Bulawayo City Council to take over as chairman of ambitious Zifa Southern Region Soccer League side Bulawayo City FC.
Sibanda will be deputised by Sipho Masuku with Mvinjelwa Mathuthu coming in as the club’s secretary-general.
Obert Sibanda is the treasurer while Patrick Ncube, assigned to run the day-to-day operations of the club, completes the Bulawayo City FC executive committee.
Confirming Jerry’s departure from Highlanders, the Bulawayo giants’ chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede said they prepared for the former’s departure at the beginning of the year and had been looking for a replacement.
“The treasurer’s situation was announced at the annual general meeting early this year. We’re in the process of trying to identify a successor who will finish Sibanda’s tenure in a co-opted capacity,” Gumede said.
He could not be drawn into revealing their targets for the treasurer’s position but this publication is reliably informed that the top two candidates earmarked to fill Sibanda’s position were Donald Ndebele and Charles Nondo.
Sources said the executive and the board of directors at Bosso had however, differed on who to appoint, leaving the matter to be resolved on another date.
Meanwhile, Gumede challenged Sibanda to uphold good governance at Bulawayo City FC.
“We expect Jerry Sibanda to observe good corporate governance practices at Bulawayo City, bearing in mind that he is a Highlanders former player, ex-manager and now former treasurer. Highlanders is known not only for producing soccer stars but good administrators as well,” said Gumede.
“While he goes away, he remains accessible to the club and as such we wish him the best in his new position. We also wish Sibanda and his team a quick promotion into the Premiership.”
The veteran administrator said they consider Bulawayo City FC as their juniors and can’t wait to initiate rivalry in the topflight.
Sibanda began his reign as the Bulawayo City FC supremo on a good footing with his side clobbering Indlovu Iyanyathela 3-0 through goals from Xolisani Moyo, Joseph Mathambo and Warren Dube at the weekend.
Bulawayo City FC are under the tutelage of Philani “Beefy” Ncube and have recruited a number of experienced players to get them into the Premiership.
Some of the players that the BCC side are banking on include Makhosi Ncube, Moyo, Dube, goalkeeper Ndodana Sibanda, defender Zibusiso “Mzimara” Sibanda, strikers Mkhululi Moyo and Qinani “Chroma” Sibanda.
Tomorrow, Bulawayo City FC travel to Hwange for a date with Southern Region Soccer League debutants Makomo.
